Hagia Sophia served as a model for the Suleymaniye mosque; but rather than simply emulate the Byzantine model, Sinan sought to improve upon the model and usurp the Byzantine legacy. Hagia Sophia, constructed in 537 AD, combined the basilica style with the central style
